Solar Tracker Fab Announced In Spain’s Aragon Region

Soltec Enters Strategic Agreement With EGP Espana To Create Solar Tracker Production Facility At Former Therma Power Plant Site

  • EGP Espana has picked Soltec as its industrial partner for Mudéjar de Andorra project (Teruel)
  • Soltec will now build a solar tracker manufacturing facility on site of the former thermal power plant
  • Trackers produced will be supplied to EGP's 1.585 GW solar power project

Good news for European solar manufacturing plans. Spanish solar tracker company Soltec will build a new solar tracker production facility in Spain's Aragon region, of undisclosed capacity, on the site of now decommissioned Andorra Thermal Power Plant of Endesa.

Soltec says the fab will be based at the warehouses and facilities of the former thermal power plant, which will create about 40 permanent jobs.

"This puts us in a great place to develop this new manufacturing center as well as our own projects. This agreement is the outcome of many years of work with Endesa, one of our key partners since we began collaborating in 2014. Today, that collaboration reaches eight countries and accounts for 4 GW in projects," said Soltec's Strategic Accounts VP, Fernando Sanchez.

Notably, Endesa plans to build 1.725 GW of renewable energy capacity in place of thermal power plant capacity, comprising 1.585 GW solar PV and 140 MW from wind farms, along with 160 MW battery storage capacity through its renewable energy subsidiary Enel Green Power Espana.

For the Mudéjar de Andorra project (Teruel), both companies have been working together for the last 2 years, shared Soltec. It will have Soltec supplying locally produced solar trackers to the Andorra project.

"Within the existing macroeconomic and geopolitical context, it is more necessary than ever to locate production centers within the European Union," stated Soltec CEO Raúl Morales. "Developing our production center near project sites is a decision aligned with our strategy of circular economy and socio-economic excellence."

TaiyangNews reached out to Soltec to know more details about the announced fab. The company spokesperson responded saying it is unable to provide further information on the said project at present.
