German battery storage company sonnen has acquired its existing long term business partner Spanish solar PV and energy storage solutions company Webatt Energia for an undisclosed amount, creating additional to expand in the European market.
Webatt Energia supplies solar PV systems to residential sector in Spain along with sonnen batteries, encouraging fossil-fuel generated energy-free life. With the acquisition, it now will operate as sonnen Spain.
For sonnen, a Shell company, the acquisition will allow it to increase its revenue source and create additional capacity for future growth.
"We see considerable potential for growth in Spain in the coming years, thanks to ideal climate conditions and increased demand for cleaner and independent energy," said sonnen CEO Oliver Koch. "Our long-standing relationship and confidence in Webatt Energia from years of collaboration facilitated our direct entry into Spain."
The association will enable the duo to expand their serviceable market in Spain's self-consumption segment. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed in Q2/2022.
