The Solar Stewardship Initiative has issued its first certifications under its Supply Chain Traceability Standard to 2 Astronergy manufacturing sites
The certified facilities – Chint Solar (Haining) Co. Ltd. and Chint New Energy Technology (Fuyang) Co. Ltd. – have systems to trace materials and transactions in line with SSI requirements, stated the organization
SSI says the certification confirms system readiness and traceability capability as per regulatory expectations in Europe
The Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI) has issued the first certifications under its Supply Chain Traceability Standard. 2 manufacturing sites of the Chinese manufacturer Astronergy were certified for having systems and controls to trace materials and transactions in line with the standard’s requirements.
Astronergy, an SSI member, has secured certifications for Chint Solar (Haining) Co., Ltd. and Chint New Energy Technology (Fuyang) Co., Ltd.
These certifications are important because solar modules entering several regions of Europe will be required to provide complete traceability to access European markets, as European governments seek a responsible supply chain. The SSI stamp means these Astronergy sites can trace materials and transactions in line with the SSI standard and satisfy customers who seek traceable products.
SSI adds that certification at this stage reflects ‘system readiness and capability’ rather than a predefined volume of traceable material.
“These first traceability certifications are an encouraging first step to demonstrate that auditable traceability systems can be implemented within the solar sector,” said SSI CEO Rachel Owens. “As public and regulatory expectations increase, including under the EU Forced Labour Regulation, companies are being asked to demonstrate effective due diligence and supply chain visibility.”
Together, the SSI ESG Standard and SSI Supply Chain Traceability Standard aim to ensure that manufacturers follow responsible sourcing and can trace materials across the supply chain, from raw material production to solar module manufacturing, explains SSI.
