Taiwanese solar cell and module producer United Renewable Energy Corp (URE) reportedly said to plan the launch of small-volume mass production of tunnel oxide passivated contact cells, also called TOPCon, in 2021. That's less than a year after the company was reported to be mulling investment in developing this technology by allocating R&D funds to the same.

Referring to a company announcement, Digitimes reported that under a collaboration with the National Taiwan University (NTU), URE said it has also developed perovskite solar cells that have reached a power conversion efficiency of as high as 26%.

URE claims to have already achieved 24.5% maximum power conversion efficiency for its N-type heterojunction (HJT) solar cells that the company has started shipping.

Formed after merging of 3 solar cell manufacturers of Taiwan—Neo Solar Power, Gintech and Solartech, URE's consolidated revenues of NT 684.5 million ($24.2 million) in February 2021 declined 19.81% sequentially and 37.11% annually.
