Indian integrated energy company Tata Power has confirmed plans to set up an INR 30 billion greenfield manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu with 4 GW annual solar cell and 4 GW solar module capacity, integrating mono-PERC bifacial technology with n-type TOPCon.
The company said the new facility will roll out high wattage modules with 'industry-leading efficiencies. It will be equipped with autonomous mobile robots (AMR) that will use lasers and cameras to transport parts following Industry 4.0 standards using smart manufacturing tools and technologies.
To come up in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu, the new fab is expected to create employment over 2,000 jobs mostly involving women. Planned investment will be made over a period pf 16 months, said Tata Power that in April 2022 raised INR 40 billion from Blackrock Real Assets and Mubadala Investment Company (see Tata Raises INR 40 Billion For Renewables).
Tata Power already operates its manufacturing fab in Karnataka's Bangalore with 500 MW solar cell and 635 MW module capacity.
The announcement was made after Tata Power signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government during Tamil Nadu's First port of Call, Investment Conclave 2022 held recently.
