  • Apollo Power says Amazon has hired it to supply and install its thin film solar panels for the latter's French logistics site
  • 450 kW capacity will be deployed for the site's rooftop which is unable to carry the weight of standard solar panels
  • The flexible solar film will also be installed at the sidewalk over a 50 sq. mtr. area that's used by cyclists and pedestrians to access the building

Israel headquartered thin film solar film supplier Apollo Power has bagged an order from e-commerce major Amazon for its technology to be deployed on the rooftop and at the sidewalk of the latter's logistics center in France.

The order worth €750,00 ($884,929) will see Apollo design, supply and install the rooftop system for Amazon's SAS Logistique France center with 450 kW capacity. The site is unable to carry the weight of standard solar panels, it added.

Apollo Power will also install its flexible solar panels on the sidewalk, covering about 50 sq. mtr. area, that leads pedestrians and cyclists to the site. With solar panels, the area will also be used as a power generating source. It envisages completion of the installation during Q4/2022 through its subsidiary SolarPaint Ltd.

"It should be noted that systems such as this, which are the subject of the order, are intended to be a solution for additional buildings belonging to the customer and for other large logistics centers that he plans to establish, in which there is a constructive difficulty in placing standard solar panels," stated Apollo Power.

Amazon aims to use 100% renewable energy to power its operations globally by 2025 for which it has been entering power purchase agreements (PPA) that have got it listed as the top renewable energy offtaker for 2 consecutive years on BloombergNEF's list (see Over 31 GW Corporate Clean Energy PPAs In 2021).

Apollo Power says it provides its Apollo Energy Films flexible solar panels for marine vehicles, automotive industry, aviation and these can be combined with solar home system (SHS) as well. It claims the films can be used for energy generating roads, sidewalks, parks, buildings, bridges, and the like.

In October 2021, it announced receiving a work order by Volkswagen for a 'unique solar-car concept'. Its film is also to be tested for use in space.
