  • Total Quadran has landed what the company terms as one of the largest corporate PPAs in France to date for 80 MW capacity
  • It will allow the company to develop 10 new solar power plants throughout metropolitan France
  • 100 GWh of power generated by this capacity will be supplied to telecom company Orange under the agreements signed

France's Total SE through its subsidiary Total Quadran has been contracted  by global telecommunications firm Orange to build 10 new solar power plants in France, with a cumulative capacity of 80 MW.

Under the corporate solar power purchase agreement (PPA) signed between the 2 with a validity of over 20 years, Total Quadran will supply 100 GWh solar power annually from these facilities to Orange. Total said this agreement enables the development of these projects throughout metropolitan France.

Total termed this as one of the largest corporate PPAs in France to date. "We want to support large industrial consumers in their energy transition towards carbon neutrality. Our ambition is to develop renewable electricity purchase contracts with business customers thanks to projects from our development portfolio in France," said Stéphane Michel, Total's General Manager Gaz Renewables & Power.

For French telecom company Orange, it said this is the company's 3rd renewable energy PPA. In February 2020, its Spanish arm entered an agreement with Iberdrola for 328 MW Ceclavín Photovoltaic Project with 12-year validity (see Telecom Company Signs Up For Solar From Iberdrola). The company followed it up with a 15-year contract with Engie to develop 2 solar projects with 51 MW capacity in France's Hautes-Alpes region in February 2021.
