  • SEG Solar and Grand Batang City have announced a land utilization agreement for a PV industrial park in Java, Indonesia
  • Under phase I, SEG plans to develop 5 GW of solar cell and 3 GW of module production capacity on site
  • The site is expected to host annual production capacity of 5 GW each for silicon wafers, cells and modules

Texas, US located solar modules manufacturer SEG Solar has signed a land utilization agreement with the Kawasan Industri Terpadu Batang or the Grand Batang City of Indonesia for the development of 5 GW vertically integrated PV industrial park.

Overall, the PV industrial park in Batang Regency, Java is expected to site vertical integration capacity of 5 GW for silicon wafers, 5 GW for solar cells and 5 GW for modules, worth an investment exceeding $500 million.

Under phase I, SEG plans to build PV facilities with an annual production capacity of 5 GW for solar cells and 3 GW for modules by Q2/2025. The duo had earlier signed a long-term land deal for the project in June 2023 (see Module Manufacturing For Indonesia).

The largest state-owned industrial estate Grand Batang City is developing the Batang PV industrial park to host factories for the production and assembly of silicon ingots, wafers, cells and modules. It sees the project becoming Southeast Asia's largest PV industrial park to date, says SEG.

The US company will use the cells produced at this park for its global module factory to ensure supply chain traceability.

"Integrated layout across the entire industry chain is crucial for SEG to adhere to legally compliant supply chain standards," said SEG Founder and COO Jun Zhuge. "Through upstream and downstream coordination, SEG ensures the provision of clean, traceable green products for the markets in the United States, Europe, and Indonesia, thereby facilitating the global transition towards green, low-carbon energy."

In August 2023, Vena Energy, Suntech, Powin and REPT Battero signed a framework agreement to explore local solar PV and storage production lines in Indonesia to support Vena Energy's 2 GW project in Riau Islands (see Renewable Energy Manufacturing In Indonesia).
