Waaree Aiming For 12 GW Module Manufacturing Capacity

Indian Solar PV Manufacturer Waaree To Expand Annual Module Production Capacity To 12 GW From 9 GW By March 2023

Solar module producer Waaree Energies Ltd has announced plans to scale up its current module manufacturing capacity from 9 GW now to 12 GW by March 2023, targeting production of 650W panels, which it claims will make it the largest module manufacturing capacity in the world, outside of China.

"The implementation of Import duty (BCD) and ALMM has changed the import-oriented market to domestic manufacturing. With policies in place now, Made in India will further grow due to PLI 2 in 2023. Waaree is committed to make in India," said Waaree Energies Chairman and Managing Director, Hitesh Doshi. "There are a huge number of projects Waiting to be deployed which will need solar panels in the coming one year. This expansion will help buyers in all respects."

Currently, the company operation production facilities in Surat, Chikhli, Tumb and Nandigram that have the go-ahead from the Government of India to ship high-wattage panels as 650W, 600W and 540W.

In May 2022, it acquired Indian solar cell manufacturer Indosolar with its 4 GW annual production facility in Greater Noida, which is to be expanded to 5.4 GW. This fab will also be now used to make modules (see Indian Solar Module Maker Raises INR 10 Billion Funding).

Waaree said with capacity expansion, it will also provide latest high efficiency technologies as TOPCon and heterojunction (HJT) to meet domestic demand.

The Indian company will also be setting up a PV module test lab (PMTL), like the one it has at Tumb, at Sri Godiji plant where it will have testing equipment capable of performing over 30 critical IEC tests.
