Waaree Solar Americas has started trial production of its US solar module fab
It entails phase I capacity of 1.6 GW whose full production will start in the next few months
This is part of the company’s 5 GW solar module and cell manufacturing facility by 2027
Indian solar PV manufacturer Waaree Energies Ltd. has started commercial operations of its 1.6 GW solar module manufacturing factory in Texas, US, through its subsidiary Waaree Solar Americas.
The company says trial production at its maiden US factory in Brookshire started in December 2024, making it the 1st Indian company to establish a PV module manufacturing facility in the US. It says the facility is set to fully commission phase-I capacity of 1.6 GW, in the next few months.
“This milestone marks the beginning of our ambitious plans for further expansion in the United States, reinforcing our dedication to building a resilient domestic supply chain, supporting energy security in the U.S., and strengthening the India-U.S. trade and energy partnership,” said Waaree Solar Americas President Sunil Rathi.
Waaree has plans to establish 5 GW of solar module production capacity in the US with an integrated cell production facility. It had earlier revealed plans to bring 3 GW of module capacity online in Brookshire by December 2024, to be expanded to 5 GW by 2027. Japan’s SoftBank Group’s SB Energy is one of the offtakers (see Waaree’s Solar Cell & Module Manufacturing Plans For US).
Back in India, Waaree operates 13.3 GW of solar module manufacturing capacity. It recently also acquired the Indian business unit of Italy’s Enel Green Power for INR 7.92 billion (see Italy’s Enel Green Power Sells India RE Portfolio To Waaree Energies).
