The Ecuadorian Ministry of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources has received an offer of $0.045888 per kWh or $458.88 per MWh for its Conolophus Renewable Energy Plant, comprising 14.8 MW solar PV and 40.9 MWh battery energy storage (BESS) capacity.
The offer is against the ceiling tariff of $0.056541 per kWh or $565.41 per MWh set by the ministry. The final offer was submitted by the consortium of Spain's Gransolar and France's Total Eren, the only candidate for the project that submitted a technical bid out of 5 bidders shortlisted (see Only Gransolar Submits Bid For Ecuador Tender).
The Conolophus solar project will be located on the Galapagos Island to supply clean energy to electrical substations on the Baltra and Santa Cruz islands for 25 years. The $45 million facility is expected to bring down consumption of diesel on the islands and displace thermal power generation here.
The project was originally conceived by Gransolar in 2020 following which the Ecuadorian Energy Ministry launched a formal international tender to select a company to realize the project by 2023 (see 14.8 MW Solar & Storage Tender In Ecuador).
In December 2020, Solarpack of Spain won 258 MW DC/200 MW AC El Aromo Solar PV Project in a 310 MW renewable energy competitive round held in Ecuador for $69.35 per MWh or $0.06935 per kWh (see Spanish Companies Win 310 MW Ecuador RE Auction).
