Grasshopper Energy To Invest In Romanian Solar With Sturdza Family

Canadian clean energy company Grasshopper Energy plans to develop up to 1 GW solar energy capacity in Romania under a partnership agreement signed with the local aristocratic Sturdza family, represented by Prince Stefan Dimitri Ferdinand.

Grasshopper Energy said implementation of this capacity would require an investment worth $1 billion by 2030. The partners will look at developing, constructing and operating solar energy projects in the country.

This capacity when realized would significantly contribute to the overall national goal of a 30.7% renewables share the country aims to achieve in its power mix by 2030. According to SolarPower Europe (SPE), solar would make up 5.1 GW of this target.

Claiming to own $1.8 billion worth of clean energy assets and a $6.5 billion global development pipeline, Grasshopper doesn't share any more details in a statement issued to announce the partnership, except that, "This exciting partnership is the 1st stage in Grasshopper's goal of assisting Romania in meeting its capacity targets."
