Part of Germany's Wattkraft Solar GmbH, India's WattPower has forayed into solar inverter production with the launch of a 10 GW string inverter fab in the state of Tamil Nadu on a 3.5-acre space.
"With a massive $172 million investment in the first year and an initial annual production capacity of 10 GW, the company is ready to take the Indian solar PV industry to a global scale," according to a brief company statement reported by local media.
WattPower is part of WattKraft Industries Private Limited in India with Divya Prakash Choraria as its managing director. The company says the factory has come up in response to India's growing appetite for green energy solutions. It will create 180 direct and indirect jobs.
Leading Chinese solar inverter producer Sungrow also operates a 10 GW manufacturing facility in India, in Bengaluru (see India PV News Snippets).
