Indonesia is planning a large scale floating solar power plant with 100 MW capacity for which local utility PT PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP) is looking for a strategic partner and has launched a pre-qualification process to select one.

A subsidiary of Indonesia's state-owned utility PT PLN (Persero), PLN NP is planning this floating PV power plant to come up on an existing dam in Karangkates in East Java's Malang District. As per tentative target, it may be brought online in 2025 according to PLN NP officials.

Launched on January 16, 2023, the pre-qualification call ended on January 26, 2023. It was open to companies that have cleared PLN NP's expression of interest (EOI) process and currently listed as its Long List Strategic Partner. Interested companies shortlisted in this process will be eligible to participate in the Strategic Partner Selection Process by submitting proposals.

While a Masdar joint venture with another subsidiary of PT PLN, PT PJBI is working on 145 MW AC floating PV plant on Cirata Reservoir in West Java, Sunseap and BP Batam have also announced a 2.2 GW floating solar project with 4,000 MWh storage to be built on Indonesia's largest reservoir Duriangkang Reservoir on Batam Island (see Financial Closure For 145 MW AC Floating PV Project).

In late-2022, PT PLN signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power to build 110 MW AC floating PV capacity in the form of 2 projects of 60 MW AC and 50 MW AC (see ACWA Power Forays Into Indonesia & Floating PV).
