  • PDO says the 100 MW Amin Solar PV Project has come online with initial production having started since March 2020
  • This project by Marubeni Corporation led consortium came online 3 months ahead of schedule, according to the PDO
  • For this project, the consortium chose bifacial solar modules from Jolywood

The Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) says commercial operations have commenced for the 100 MW Amin Photovoltaic Power Plant supplying clean power to the oil and gas supplier for its captive consumption. PDO calls it among the world's first utility scale solar projects to have an oil and gas company as sole offtaker. PDO also calls it the first utility scale solar PV plant in Oman.

Project started sending power to the grid in March 2020, 3 months ahead of schedule, after EPC work completed within 12-month duration.

A consortium led by Marubeni Corporation of Japan won the contract to develop the 100 MW project in October 2018 followed by a power purchase agreement (PPA) signed with PDO for 'one of the world's lowest tariff at the time of award'.

The project uses bifacial solar modules from Jolywood which the company says come with high-efficiency rear-surface passivation.

Jolywood is also supplying its bifacial modules for another large scale solar project in Oman with 575 MW capacity that has 2 other Chinese suppliers, Arctech Solar trackers and Sungrow inverters (see Chinese Trackers For Ibri II Oman PV Project).

TaiyangNews will hold a free webinar on n-type passivated contact solar cells including a presentation from Jolywood on June 9, 2020.
