Colombia's renewable energy auction due to be concluded in October 2019 has received 53 bids from 27 companies, according to the country's Mining and Energy Planning Unit (UPME). The list includes international names like Acciona Energia, Canadian Solar, EDF Renovables, Enel Green Power, Greenyellow, Solarpack, Trina Solar, among others.
There are 26 power distributors that will act as buyers in the auction who will procure the power generated. Along with solar, other participating technologies are wind, geothermal, small hydro and wave power.
If it goes ahead as planned in October 2019, the auction will be the country's first successful renewable energy auction after the government scrapped the auction previously in February 2019 despite receiving an aggregate bids of 1.5 GW (see Colombia's 1st RE Auction Scheduled For Oct 2019).
In March 2019, Colombia auctioned 23 plants with 1,398 MW of renewable energy capacity under its Reliability Charge Auction with 2 of them being solar power projects having 238 MW total capacity (see 1.39 GW Wind/Solar Awarded In Colombian Auction).
