  • Nonogasta Solar Park will be in Argentina's La Rioja province
  • The 42 MW capacity park is being developed by 360Energy for a total estimated investment of $35 million
  • Around 132,000 solar PV panels from China will be used in the project
  • Project completion date is scheduled for the end of this year

Argentina's La Rioja province is supporting the development of a 42 MW solar PV project. 360Energy is providing EPC Services for the Nonogasta Solar Park, along with six others that were awarded in the RenovAr tenders.

The project was awarded in round 1.5 of a tender conducted as part of Argentina's renewable energy program RenovAr (see Winners Announced For Argentina Tender). The governor of the province Sergio Casas visited the proposed site recently.

The solar project will use 132,000 solar PV panels to be sourced from China. The entire park will be built in a single stage and is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2017. Post this, it will be connected to the grid through a new substation which is also being built by 360Energy. During the construction phase, 150 jobs are expected to be created.

Clean energy from the project will be bought by the Administradora Company of Wholesale Electricity Market (CAMMESA) with whom the developer has signed a power purchase contract for a period of 20 years. Estimated investment on the project will be more than $35 million.

Argentina is aiming to have 3 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2018 and increase the level to 10 GW by 2025. During Round 1 of the RenovAr project, the Ministry auctioned 1,000 MW of renewable capacity and the entire PV capacity of 300 MW was won by  Jujuy Energia Y Mineria (see 1 GW Argentina Tender Update). In round 1.5, PV was awarded  516.2 MW, equal to 40% of the total of 1,281.5 MW of renewable energy that was tendered.
