The Uzbekistan Ministry of Energy has received proposals by 5 bidders in response to its call for 200 MW Sherabad Solar PV Project launched in February 2020. It zeroed in on these 5 out of 11 companies/consortiums that were shortlisted as pre-qualified bidders in December 2020 (see Uzbekistan: List Of Shortlisted Bidders For 600 MW PV Out).
The ones who submitted their bids by the deadline of April 12, 2021 are identified as Abu Dhabi's Masdar, Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power, and 3 consortiums led by China's Jinko Power, France's Total Eren, and China's Risen Energy.
The ministry will now evaluate the proposals submitted and announce the winner.
Backed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), 200 MW Sherabad Solar PV Project is set to come up in Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan as part of 1 GW solar PV capacity that the bank is helping the country develop (see Uzbekistan Launches 200 MW Solar PV Tender).
In December 2020, the ministry announced a teaser for Sherabad phase II under which another solar power project will be tendered and set up. Phase II will have a solar power station to be built in close proximity to the 200 MW under Sherabad phase I. Depending on the outcome of phase I auction, the actual capacity of the solar project under phase II will be decided. It could vary between 150 MW AC to 300 MW AC. A teaser shared by the ministry said the balance of Sherabad phase I and II will be 500 MW AC in total.
According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), at the end of 2020 Uzbekistan's total installed renewable energy capacity was over 2 GW with solar PV contributing only 4 MW.
