The National Energy Administration (NEA) of China has released the latest statistics for grid connected solar PV capacity in the country according to which its annual installations in 9M/2022 increased by over 100% to 52.6 GW.
In comparison, it grid connected 25.55 GW in 9M/2021 taking the country's cumulative capacity to 278 GW at the end of September 2021 (see China Installed 25.5 GW New Solar In 9M/2021).
As per the NEA, in the initial 3 quarters of 2022 China installed 1.727 GW of centralized solar projects and 3.533 GW of distributed photovoltaics. Between January 2022 and June 2022, the numbers added up to 30.88 GW which means in Q3/2022 the country deployed 21.72 GW of new PV capacity or 23% more sequentially (see China Installed 31 GW Solar PV In H1/2022).
Cumulatively speaking, solar installations of China at the end of September 2022 reached 358 GW with 215.6 GW centralized and 142.4 GW distributed PV.
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), global solar PV additions in 2022 are likely to add up to 190 GW. Looks like China has already installed over 27% of this forecast (see IEA Expects 320 GW Global RE Capacity In 2022).
