Hyphen Hydrogen Energy brings on board ILF for Namibia green hydrogen project; EDFI ElectriFI lends $1 million to AMPED Innovation in Burundi; Masdar has reportedly signed a roadmap for 500 MW solar development in Ethiopia.

ILF joins green hydrogen project: Hyphen Hydrogen Energy has signed a partnership agreement with engineering and consulting firm ILF Consulting Engineers (ILF) for its green hydrogen project in Namibia. Touted as one of the largest green hydrogen projects globally, it will produce 350,000 tonnes of green hydrogen/year and 2 million tonnes of green ammonia/year, powered by 7 GW of renewable generation capacity and 2 GW of electrolyzer capacity, according to Hyphen. In the initial phase, it targets to produce 1 million tonnes of green ammonia by 2027, and increased to 2 million by 2029. It will supply and decarbonize Namibia's energy systems and also export the same internationally.

Previously, Hyphen said the project will use 5 GW of renewable energy capacity for the project to generate 300,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually (see Hyphen Hydrogen Energy For Namibia Project). Earlier this month, Hyphen signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Japan's ITOCHU Corporation to explore a potential collaboration for the Namibian green hydrogen project.

EDFI ElectriFI to support SHS in Burundi: European Union (EU)-funded impact investment facility EDFI ElectriFI has committed $1 million to support solar home systems (SHS) for over 3,000 households in Burundi. EDFI ElectriFI Country Window has made this inaugural commitment to SHS manufacturer AMPED Innovation. The latter will use this revolving working capital facility (WCF) to co-finance its SHS orders to be deployed in the African country through distributors. This collaboration will help AMPED explore new business development opportunities while bringing access to clean and reliable energy to locals in the nation.

500 MW solar in Ethiopia: Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company Masdar has been reported to have signed a roadmap with Ethiopian government for its previously announced 500 MW solar deal. The company entered the roadmap agreement in the presence of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia Dr. Abiy Ahmed. In 2021, Masdar had signed an MoU with Ethiopia to develop 500 MW solar capacity, initially targeting a commissioning deadline of 2022 (see Masdar To Develop 500 MW Solar PV Capacity In Ethiopia).
