Cairo based Arabian Cement Company (ACC) has signed an agreement with local Egyptian solar company SolarizEgypt to set up a PV power plant at its manufacturing location in Suez Governorate. The project will be established for EGP 100 million ($5.58 million) and is planned to generate more than 14 GWh of clean energy annually, accounting for up to 4% of the total power supply of the ACC plant for next 25 years post commissioning.
The ACC plant is currently powered by 'alternative fuel' and coal from ACC's own coal mill. Before this, it was run with natural gas.
Commercial, industrial and residential solar power company SolarizEgypt says it is the first solar power purchase agreement (PPA) for the cement industry in Egypt.
The solar power plant is expected to start operations by Q2/2019. Project will be established on a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis. It will be financed by a commercial bank in Egypt, QNB AlAhli under European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)-Green Economy Program, said ACC.
