Armenia has installed a 0.5 MW solar power system in the city of Hrazdan in Makravan district. This is the country's first solar photovoltaic power plant.
The solar power station called ArevEk was built by Energo Invest Holding at a cost of about half a million dollars, which was fully borne by Energo Invest Holding.
The system uses solar panels from European PV company Recom, ABB inverters and monitoring system.
Armenian Public Services Regulatory Commission has approved 11 licenses for the construction of a solar power plant with a capacity of up to 1 MW each for a total of up to 10 MW.
By 2025, Armenia wants to have 30% of its electricity needs being met by renewable energy. It is currently working on a 55 MW tender for which it received interest from 10 companies and consortiums in July 2017 (see 10 Companies Shortlisted For Armenia Tender).
