  • Rays Power Infra has commissioned a 275 MW DC solar power plant in Bangladesh
  • It is the company's and Bangladesh's single largest solar PV power station to date to have come online
  • Back in October 2021, Rays was engaged by TSL to install the project in Gaibandha district's Sundarganj in Rangpur division

Indian solar EPC firm Rays Power Infra has grid connected what it terms as the 'single largest' solar power plant in Bangladesh with 275 MW DC capacity in Gaibandha district's Sundarganj in Rangpur division, equipped with more than 500,000 PV modules.

The project is located on more than 600 acres of land and with the help of local manpower, Rays commissioned it within 14 months. It also happens to be Jaipur headquartered Rays' single largest project commissioned anywhere as the company further expands its presence across Asia and MENA regions.

"While the project is focused on solar energy, it has also created several job opportunities for local people and business growth avenues for the subcontractors. We are now focusing on establishing more such power plants in Bangladesh and other countries as well, in our quest to establish Rays as a global EPC player," said Director, Rays Power Infra, Pawan Sharma.

TaiyangNews contacted Rays Power Infra for more details about the project, but till the time of this news being published, we had not heard back.

While Rays does not specify any other details about the facility in the official statement covered by local news agency Press Trust of India (PTI), it was engaged by the Teesta Solar Limited (TSL), a joint venture between Beximco Power Company Limited and China's TBEA Xinjiang Sunoasis Company Limited for a 280 MW DC/200 MW AC solar plant in Bangladesh in October 2021 (see 280 MW DC Agrivoltaic Project In Bangladesh).

Beximco had contracted China's LONGi to supply its high-efficiency Hi-MO 5 solar modules for the project planned for Sundarganj region of Gaibandha district in Rangpur division. The solar power plant was reportedly contracted by government utility Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) to supply it power at $0.15/kWh.

Earlier this year on January 9, 2023, BPDB announced a power purchase agreement (PPA) for 68 MW Sirajganj Solar Park with Bangladesh-China Renewable Energy Company (BCRECL).
