Brazil has announced dates for new energy auctions. The A-4 auction will take place on December 18, 2017, the A-6 auction on Dec 20. Solar PV will only be included in the technology-neutral A-4 auction, as announced previously (see Brazil Announces PV Auction For Dec 2017).
The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has published these dates in the official gazette. Contracted capacity in A-4 auctions will be required to get connected to the grid in January 2021. The A-6 allotted capacity will have time until January 2023 to start generating power.
Recently, Brazil's National Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) canceled 557.4 MW solar and wind power capacity that included 9 solar power plants of 249.7 MW capacity. Developers had won this capacity in auctions but approached the government to cancel the deals owing to financing constraints, reported Reuters (see Brazil Cancels 25 Wind & PV Power Projects).
Brazil's solar energy association ABSOLAR predicts that the country's installed solar power capacity will touch 1 GW by the end of 2017 (see Brazilian PV Capacity To Reach 1 GW By Year End).
