China PV News Snippets: Panda, Risen, Qinghai

Panda Green Energy changes name: The board of directors of solar power project developer Panda Green Energy Group Limited have announced renaming the company as Beijing Energy International Holding Co., Ltd in English. It has also adopted a new logo. It follows a special resolution passed by the shareholders in August 2020.  The company website has also been renamed following the announcement. The change of name comes after integrated energy services company Beijing Energy Holding Co., Ltd. became the largest shareholder of then Panda Green in February 2020.

This happens to be the 2nd time the company has changed its name. It was earlier called United Photovoltaics Group Limited (PVEP) and renamed itself Panda Green Energy Group Limited in 2017 after it entered into a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The idea was to set up panda-shaped solar power plants in a bid to encourage clean energy technologies and promote youth participation in achieving sustainable development goals (SDG) of the UNDP.

Risen Energy modules for Brazil: Risen Energy has secured an order to supply 54 MW of solar modules to be used for projects in Brazil. It did not identify the client or the project as per a company announcement covered by PV Men. The module maker will supply its 210mm series monocrystalline modules with 500W power rating under the order. These modules use G12 monocrystalline silicon wafers with a module efficiency of 20.8%. In Brazil, Risen Energy says it has more than 30 MW orders for distributed energy projects.

1.6 GW solar PV project approved in Qinghai: Qinghai Provincial Development and Reform Commission has green signaled a 1.6 GW PV project, selected after a competitive bidding process, to be built in Hainan prefecture by the end of 2020. The project will be a 330kV substation to accommodate power generated by the project into the grid. Hainan Yellow River Green Energy Development Co., Ltd. will build the project for an investment of RMB 450 million ($66 million). The company will seek an EPC contractor through a competitive procurement process, as per the order issued.
