Tongwei signs agreement with Bouygues Construction Australia; China Power and Trina complete equity delivery for Malaysia FPV project; solar EPC prices hit new lows; PVRC's solar module recycling project approved; MIIT calls for renewable energy technical and equipment standards.

Tongwei signs its 1st 100+MW overseas solar project: Vertically integrated solar manufacturer Tongwei Solar has announced that it has signed a cooperation agreement with Bouygues Construction Australia. According to the agreement, the 2 companies will cooperate to jointly promote the construction of PV projects. The 1st project and the 1st single project capacity exceeding 100 MW for Tongwei overseas, with a total installed capacity of 114.88MW, is located in Australia. Tongwei will supply its 182-72 Model TNC module products to the project that is scheduled to commence operations in Q3 2024.

Tongwei Solar recently announced that it has officially joined the RE100 global initiative as a gold member (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

China Power and Trina Solar complete equity delivery for Malaysia's 1st large-scale FPV project: SPIC subsidiary China Power and Trina Solar have completed the equity delivery for the 69.3 MW under-construction floating PV project in Sarawak, Malaysia. This project is the 1st large-scale floating PV project in Sarawak and the 1st utility PV project in Malaysia allowing foreign control. The project is located within the Batang Ai hydropower station reservoir in Sarawak and has signed a 30-year fixed electricity price power purchase agreement (PPA) with Sarawak Energy Berhad's subsidiary. Scheduled to be completed by October 2024, Trina Solar was awarded this project by Sarawak Energy Berhad in July 2022 (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Solar EPC prices hit new lows: Solar EPC prices have hit new lows of about RMB 1.82/W, as observed in recently released tender results for 2 utility solar PV projects. The projects include CHN Energy's Ningxia Daji base project (bid scale of 600 MW) and CGN's Qinghai Delingha base project (bid scale of 600 MW). The lowest EPC bid prices for these 2 projects were RMB 1.825/W ($0.2539/W) and RMB 1.824/W ($0.2537/W), respectively, setting a new record for the lowest prices in the history of such projects. The main reason for this extremely low price is the rapid decline in component prices over the past year. According to PV InfoLink's price report, in January 2023, PERC module prices were still around RMB 1.82/W ($0.2532/W). However, the latest price this week has dropped to approximately RMB 0.9/W ($0.1252/W).

PVRC's solar module recycling project approved: PVRC, a high-tech enterprise specializing in the recycling and disposal of scrapped photovoltaic modules, has received approval for its PV module recycling plant. It was part of the list of national circular economy standardization pilot demonstration projects released recently. This project is the first standardized pilot project in the national solar recycling industry. PVRC claims that its retired module high-pressure jet grinding method introduces no new sources of pollution throughout the process, generating no wastewater, exhaust gas, or waste residue. By iterating and upgrading disassembly technology, the company says that it has achieved a material recovery rate of over 95%.

MIIT calls for renewable energy technical and equipment standards by 2025: The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) states in a recent notice that a preliminary standard system for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality in the industrial sector should be established by 2025. The notice focuses on basic general, greenhouse gas accounting, low-carbon technology, and equipment standards. It emphasizes the development of standards for renewable energy development, transmission, storage, utilization, and distributed applications, with a focus on solar energy, wind energy, solar thermal, geothermal, tidal energy, biomass energy, and other related technologies and equipment.
