Huasun wins China Hunaneng's 500 MW HJT module bid; JA Solar's Baotou green energy power project approved; JTPV's FY2023 financial results released; NDRC urges accelerated buildout of large wind and solar bases in China.
Huasun wins 500 MW HJT bid from China Huaneng: Heterojunction (HJT) manufacturer Huasun Energy has announced that it has won a major photovoltaic (PV) module contract in China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd.'s recent procurement tender. As part of the contract win under Section 3 of the bid, the company will supply 500 MW of its HJT modules to China Huaneng. Previously, it had won a 900 MW HJT module tender by the State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC).
Huasun recently announced that it has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Pakistani solar company AE Power (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
JA Solar receives approval for Baotou 300 MW green energy power project: JA Solar has received approval from the Energy Bureau of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region for its 300 MW green energy power project in Baotou City. According to the announcement, the project, set to upgrade JA Solar's Baotou base, includes new loads for the electricity supply for JA Solar's manufacturing facilities, with a total electricity load of about 250 MW and an annual electricity consumption of about 2.07 billion kWh. The project plans to co-construct 300 MW of market-based grid-connected renewable energy, comprising 240 MW of wind power and 60 MW of photovoltaic power, alongside an electrochemical energy storage scale of 45 MW / 180 MWh (15%/4 hours).
JTPV's solar cell shipments reach 29.96 GW in 2023: Drinda Corporation, JTPV's parent company, has released its annual report for 2023. For the period, JTPV's solar cell business generated revenues of RMB 18.631 billion ($2.59 million), with a gross margin of 14.69%. Its solar cell shipments totaled 29.96 GW for 2023, including 9.38 GW of p-type cells and 20.58 GW of n-type cells. This is a 179.48% increase compared to 2022. By the end of 2023, the company had a p-type PERC cell production capacity of 9.5 GW and n-type TOPCon cell capacity of approximately 40 GW, with n-type cells making up more than 80% of the capacity structure.
Recently, InfoLink Consulting ranked JTPV as the 4th largest solar cell manufacturer globally by shipment volume (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
NDRC urges accelerated buildout of large wind & solar bases: The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has released its draft plan for national economic and social development in 2024. It calls for accelerated construction of large wind and solar power bases and the integrated development and construction of water, wind, and solar power in major river basins. Promoting distributed energy development and utilization, appropriately layout pumped storage power stations, and encouraging the diversified development of new energy storage is also part of its goals for 2024.
The report highlighted that in 2023, China's installed capacity of renewable energy generation surpassed 50% of the total for the first time, with nearly 3 trillion kWh of electricity generated throughout the year; newly operational renewable energy storage installations exceeded 31 GW.
