Risen's Nanbin Base Phase I rolls out 1st module; Shanghai Electric and Ideal Energy Sunflower sign framework agreement; YC Solar delivers 50 MW modules to Jinkunlun; Maxeon to set up 1st US plant in New Mexico; LONGi receives SBTi certification.
Risen rolls out 1st heterojunction module from Nanbin Base: Solar panel maker Risen Energy has started production of Hyper-ion heterojunction (HJT) modules from Phase I of its Nanbin Base. Located in the Baizhangtang block of Binhai Economic Development Zone south of Ningbo, the 15 GW plant is being built over an area of 1448 mu and involves a total investment of RMB 15.2 billion ($2.09 billion). The Hyper-ion module is based on the 210 mm ultra-thin large silicon wafer + HJT technology platform. The module adopts a unique low-temperature bifacial passivation contact, bifacial microcrystalline technology, low silver-containing paste and steel frame, which result in cost reduction and an increase in efficiency. The module can reach a maximum power of 741.456 Wp, with an efficiency of 23.89%. Risen recently said that its production capacity of mass-produced heterojunction cells may nearly touch 3 GW in 2023 (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
Shanghai Electric to procure HJT production line equipment from Ideal Energy Sunflower: Shanghai Electric Group Hengxi Photovoltaic Technology (Nantong) Co., Ltd., has entered into an agreement to procure HJT line equipment from Ideal Energy (Shanghai) Sunflower Thin Film Equipment Ltd. The equipment is expected to be delivered by September 20, with the 1st module to be produced by the end of the year.
Jinkunlun PV Project receives 50 MW high-efficiency modules from YC SOLAR: YC SOLAR, a subsidiary of Yingli Solar, announced that it has successfully delivered 50 MW of high-efficiency modules for the Jinkunlun Photovoltaic Power Generation Project in Golmud, Qinghai. This project uses YC SOLAR YCM series high-efficiency modules, using 182 mm cells, half-cut, double-glass technology, and module power of ≥ 545 Wp. The attenuation rate of the module is said to be not more than 2% during its 1st year, with an average attenuation rate of not more than 0.45% over the next 29 years.
Maxeon to set up 3 GW TOPCon cell and module plant in New Mexico: Maxeon Solar, a subsidiary of TCL Zhonghuan, has chosen Albuquerque, New Mexico as its 1st location in the United States as part of its PV manufacturing expansion plans. The company is said to be investing RMB 8.7 billion ($1.2 billion) in the 3 GW facility. The plant is expected to double Maxeon's production capacity, and will be used to design and produce the latest generation of TOPCon cells and the company's proprietary shingled PV modules. The facility is expected to start construction in the spring of 2024 and put into operation in 2025. Maxeon recently lowered its guidance for 2023 (see Singapore Company's Q2/2023 Revenues Grew 46% YoY).
LONGi receives SBTi official target audit certification: LONGi Solar has announced that it has become the 1st company in China's PV industry to obtain the official Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) target audit certification. LONGi is one of more than 4,600 companies around the world to have participated in SBTi and set scientific carbon target initiatives.
