LONGi’s silicon-perovskite tandem solar cell sets new record

LONGi has announced that its silicon-perovskite 2-terminal tandem solar cell developed in-house has achieved a conversion efficiency of 34.85%. Terming it a new ‘world record’ for this category, the company says this achievement has been certified by the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). This surpasses the previous record of 34.6%, again set by LONGi in June 2024.

In addition to this achievement, LONGi also holds the world record for conversion efficiency of HIBC (Hybrid Interdigitated-Back-Contact) solar cells. Certified by the Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin (ISFH) in Germany, LONGi’s self-developed HIBC cell has reached a photoelectric conversion efficiency of 27.81% (see LONGi Records Highest Cell Efficiency For HIBC Technology).

Arctech reports double-digit growth in 2024 revenues and net profit

Leading solar tracker manufacturer Arctech has released its 2024 annual report, showing strong performance across the board. The company reported total revenues of RMB 9.03 billion ($1.236 billion), a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 41.25%. Its net profit attributable to shareholders rose 83.03% YoY to RMB 631.52 million ($86.52 million). These numbers are revised from when it reported its earnings for 2024 (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

During the reporting period, Arctech sold 17.41 GW of solar tracker systems, 5.80 GW of fixed-tilt structures, and 129.27 MW of BIPV products. From a geographic perspective, domestic business accounted for 17.95% of the total revenue, while international markets contributed 82.05%.

According to a performance announcement released in January, Arctech held total orders worth RMB 4.65 billion ($636.99 million) as of December 31, 2024, including RMB 3.5 billion ($479.45 million) for trackers.

The Suji Sandy Land 2 GW solar PV project in Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia utilizes 1 GW of DeepBlue 4.0 Pro solar modules from JA Solar.

JA Solar supplies 1 GW DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules for desert PV project

Leading solar integrated manufacturer JA Solar has delivered 1 GW of DeepBlue 4.0 Pro solar modules to the Suji Sandy Land 2 GW solar PV project in Bayannur City, Inner Mongolia, developed by China Huaneng Group. The project will adopt an ‘on-panel power generation, under-panel cultivation’ model. Spanning about 2,867 hectares, the site has long suffered from desertification and fragile ecosystems.

JA Solar stated that its DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules are well-suited for the harsh desert environment, offering excellent resistance to UV radiation, wind load, and temperature variations. Once operational, the project is expected to generate 2.96 billion kWh of electricity annually, saving 900,000 tons of standard coal and reducing CO₂ emissions by 2.68 million tons each year.

JA Solar recently received 9 Top Brand PV 2025 awards from EUPD Research (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

TrinaStorage’s Elementa ESS, installed at Phase II of the Feicheng 150 MW Agri-Fishery-PV-Storage Hybrid Project in Tai'an City, Shandong Province, achieved 95.2% DC efficiency and 87.1% system efficiency.

TrinaStorage releases operational data for energy storage plant

TrinaStorage, the storage arm of Trinasolar, has officially released the operation report for Phase II of the Feicheng 150 MW Agri-Fishery-PV-Storage Hybrid Project in Tai'an City, Shandong Province. The report has been certified by UL Solutions and the China Quality Certification Center (CQC).

The project utilizes TrinaStorage’s Elementa series energy storage system (ESS), featuring advanced thermal management and integrated design. It achieved 95.2% DC efficiency, 87.1% system efficiency, with only 1.8% auxiliary power use. After one year of operation, the battery is said to have retained 98% capacity, reducing energy loss by 30% and lowering storage costs by 15%-20%, highlighting its long lifespan and low degradation advantages.

China’s major solar cell makers produced 78.44 GW in March, up nearly 24% YoY

According to data released by China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) for March 2025, major solar cell manufacturers (with annual revenue of RMB 20 million or more) produced 78.44 GW of solar cells in March, marking a 23.6% YoY increase. From January to March, cumulative solar cell output from major manufacturers reached 172.67 GW, up 18.5% YoY.

The report also disclosed power generation data for the same group of enterprises. In March, total electricity generation reached 778 billion kWh, a 1.8% increase from the previous year. Of this, solar power accounted for 41.8 billion kWh (up 8.9% YoY), while wind power generated 105.4 billion kWh (up 8.2% YoY).
