The China Association of Building Energy Efficiency has released the list of Top 10 Innovations in Green and Low-Carbon Development in Urban-Rural Construction (2024). The Boao Zero-Carbon Demonstration Zone in Qionghai, Hainan topped the list, thanks to its green and low-carbon technology system.
Constructed by LONGi Sente, LONGi’s BIPV-focused subsidiary, this project has a total installed capacity of about 3.88 MW. It is said to be the first demonstration park in China to achieve regional zero-carbon operation, also supporting the Boao Forum for Asia in achieving zero-carbon operations. LONGi Sente’s customized BIPV solution integrates photovoltaic technology with building materials, where rooftops, floor tiles, louvers, railings, and corridors all serve as power-generating carriers.
Recently, LONGi joined hands with zero-carbon community solution provider Deeprock Group to launch the Open-Source Green Ecology Alliance (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
Leading integrated solar manufacturer Tongwei Co., Ltd., the parent company of Tongwei Solar, has revealed in a major sales order announcement that the company shipped 45.71 GW of solar modules in 2024. This is a year-on-year increase of 46.91%.
Recently, Tongwei signed module sales contracts exceeding 100 MW each with several international buyers including PVO International B.V., European Energy A/S, and Gransolar. In the domestic market, Tongwei has been shortlisted as a preferred supplier in large-scale centralized procurement tenders by major Chinese utilities such as China Datang and China Three Gorges Group, with the total shortlisted project volume exceeding 22 GW.
According to a recently approved EIA report by the Baotou authorities, a Tongwei-Trinasolar JV is setting up a new silicon powder factory in the province (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
Solar tracker and mounting system manufacturer Clenergy has announced plans to raise RMB 500 million ($68.49 million) through a public issuance of convertible corporate bonds. It plans to use the proceeds to fund a smart factory for distributed PV mounting systems and an energy research and development (R&D) center in Xiamen, Fujian Province.
The company plans to invest RMB 353.83 million ($48.46 million) in the smart factory, RMB 332 million ($45.43 million) of which will be through this fundraising. Once up and running, this plant will add 10 GW of production capacity for distributed PV mounting systems.
The energy R&D center project involves a total investment of RMB 81.62 million ($11.18 million), including RMB 18 million ($2.46 million) from the raised capital. The center will focus on research related to PV mounting structures and energy storage technologies.
Solar project developer and solar module maker CECEP Solar has completed a RMB 2.95 billion ($404.11 million) fundraising for 6 solar PV power station projects. According to previous company announcements, the funds were raised through a public issuance of convertible corporate bonds, specifically designated for the construction of these projects. Located across Jiangsu, Guizhou, and Xinjiang provinces, these power plants are being built with a total investment of RMB 4,566.28 million ($625.51 million), RMB 2.95 billion ($404.11 million) of which will come from the fundraising. Combined, these projects have an installed PV capacity of 850 MW AC. CECEP Solar plans to equip some of these projects with energy storage systems (ESS) and participate in electricity market-oriented trading.
State-owned power grid corporation China Southern Power Grid (CSG) has issued the draft version of the 2025 Work Plan for New Energy Participation in the Electricity Spot Market. According to the document, from June 2025, 5 provinces under China Southern Power Grid (Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Hainan) will implement trial long-cycle spot market settlements to enable full participation of both centralized and distributed renewable energy grid-connected electricity in the spot market. The plan specifies participation methods for different project types:
Centralized projects can choose either “quantity and price bidding” or “quantity bidding only (accepting market-set prices).”
Distributed projects can enter the market via aggregators or as price takers (settling based on the market prices for similar types of generation sources).
