Jinko ESS powers Ningbo smart charging energy station

JinkoSolar’s energy storage division Jinko ESS has announced that a smart solar-storage multi-energy station in Ningbo’s Haishu District employs its 745 kWh JinkoESS SunGiga energy storage system (ESS), integrating it with a battery swap station and solar carports. The SunGiga ESS is equipped with advanced liquid cooling and intelligent thermal management, which the company claims to boost battery capacity by 10% and efficiency by 2%. JinkoESS says that it provides 24/7 monitoring and robust safety via its big data cloud platform. This innovative hub, considered a benchmark for sustainable energy solutions, supports Ningbo’s ‘Citywide Smart Charging Network.’

In December 2024, Jinko ESS signed a 100 MWh agreement with JinYeZi Co., Ltd. deepen collaboration in energy storage, covering product services, market promotion, and equity cooperation (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Trina Storage tops BloombergNEF’s 2024 bankability survey

Trina Storage, the energy storage arm of Trinasolar, has announced that it has retained its top position in BloombergNEF’s 2024 Energy Storage System Cost Survey, recognized for its innovation, integrated capabilities, and financial strength. This achievement reflects strong market confidence in its solutions and supports its global expansion.

Trina Storage says it has built a mature sales network and robust quality management processes, supplying over 7.5 GWh of ESS globally by Q3 2024. It adds that its tailored solutions meet regional needs, excelling in grid services, high-temperature resistance, and long cycle life.

Trina Storage has also been included in the BNEF Tier 1 list for 4 consecutive quarters apart from being recognized by S&P Global as one of the Top 10 BESS Integrators for 2024.

Late last year, Trina Storage published a detailed white paper addressing safety and reliability in energy storage systems in collaboration with TÜV NORD (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

JinkoSolar and Shijing New Energy JV approved

The Sichuan Development and Reform Commission has approved the energy-saving report for a high-efficiency solar wafer and cell manufacturing base by Shijing New Energy, a joint venture between Shijing Technology (90%) and JinkoSolar (10%). It includes the construction of a 20 GW n-type cell facility and a 20 GW monocrystalline wafer line in Ziyang City, Sichuan Province, along with byproducts such as 1,000 tons of ammonia and 1,796 tons of calcium fluoride annually. With a total investment of RMB 4.11 billion ($578.36 million), the first phase is set to complete by December 2025, and the second by December 2026.

In March 2024, Shijing Technology announced that its subsidiary SJEF Solar signed a solar cell procurement contract with JinkoSolar to supply approximately 2.5 billion monocrystalline solar cells/A-grade cells between January 2024 and December 2025.

Tongwei’s 20 GW solar wafer fab approved

The Sichuan Development and Reform Commission has approved Tongwei Solar’s subsidiary Zhongwei New Energy's energy-saving report for its 20 GW solar wafer manufacturing facility. The company is investing a total of RMB 700 million ($95.47 million) in this facility, which involves converting Tongwei Solar’s existing A1 cell workshop in Chengdu, Sichuan Province into an A1 slicing workshop. The facility will produce 182 × 210 mm monocrystalline solar wafers.

Astronergy’s solar labs receive CNAS accreditation

Solar PV manufacturer Astronergy’s Yiwu and Yueqing solar laboratories have received accreditation from the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment (CNAS). With this accreditation, the testing reports from these labs will be recognized in over 100 countries and regions. Established in March 2016, Astronergy’s solar testing center operates 4 labs: Yiwu, Yueqing, Haining, and Dafeng. The center, has invested over RMB 80 million ($10.9 million), employs 40+ staff, and houses 300+ devices. It is equipped to perform all tests under IEC 61215, 25 tests under IEC 61730, and over 60 material tests. The labs are instrumental in reliability evaluations during the R&D and production phases of solar modules and materials.

CECEP Solar forecasts FY2024 net profit to decline 23.77%

In its recently released 2024 earnings forecast, CECEP Solar expects to report net profits attributable to shareholders of RMB 1.2 billion to 1.25 billion ($168.85 million to $176.01 million), a year-on-year decline of 20.82% to 23.99% from RMB 1.58 billion ($215.49 million) in 2023. After deducting non-recurring gains and losses, net profit is expected to fall by 20.42% to 23.77%. The management attributed the decline to the insufficient grid absorption in certain regions of its power generation segment, alongside expanded market-oriented electricity trading and lower average electricity prices, meanwhile, the manufacturing segment faced lower sales volumes and prices.
