CREEI Forecasts 200 GW of New Solar Installations in China for 2026

The China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute (CREEI) has released its China Renewable Energy Development Report 2025. According to the report, China's cumulative renewable energy generation capacity reached 2.337 TW, accounting for 60.1% of the total national installed capacity. Within this, the combined cumulative installed capacity of wind and solar power reached a combined 1.842 TW, surpassing coal-fired power generation for the 1st time.

For 2026, CREEI forecasts 200 GW of new solar installations, around 100 GW of new wind power, and over 50 GW of new grid-connected energy storage capacity. Additionally, the report projects China's cumulative pumped-hydro storage capacity to reach 65.94 GW and new energy storage installations to reach 136 GW by 2025.

DAQO Energy Enters AI Data Center Energy Equipment Market

Polysilicon producer DAQO Energy has announced plans to invest RMB 6 billion in a smart energy system manufacturing base in Kunshan, Jiangsu province. This marks its foray into energy equipment sector for AI computing power centers. The project will be developed in 2 phases, with RMB 2.1 billion allocated for the initial phase. The facility will focus on the research, development, manufacturing, and sales of smart energy system solutions and related equipment, including energy storage systems, solid-state transformers, solid-state circuit breakers, and solid-state batteries. DAQO said this diversification aims to mitigate operational risks and cultivate a second growth curve.

China Expands Clean Energy Network for Heavy Trucks

In China, 11 government ministries, including the Ministry of Transport, have jointly issued a plan to promote the large-scale adoption of new energy heavy trucks. The "Implementation Plan for Promoting the Scaled Application of New Energy Heavy Trucks" sets ambitious goals: new energy heavy trucks are projected to reach a 40% penetration rate and exceed 1.6 million units by 2030, supported by the construction of 3,000 heavy truck charging and battery swapping stations.

The plan emphasizes the integrated planning, design, and construction of charging, swapping, and hydrogen refueling stations with clean energy generation and storage facilities during highway infrastructure upgrades. It also encourages the development of localized "wind-solar-storage-charging-swapping" integrated facilities and direct green power connections for new energy heavy trucks to optimize refueling costs. According to the statement, local authorities have been urged to implement pilot programs for energy supply infrastructure and integrated "PV-storage-charging (swapping)-discharging" systems, aligning with their 15th Five-Year Plan objectives.
