HY Solar Produces 40 μm Ultra-Thin Wafers Using Proprietary Slicing Equipment

Vertically integrated PV and equipment manufacturer HY Solar announced that its self-developed slicing equipment has produced ultra-thin wafers with a thickness of 40 μm, which the company claims sets a new industry record.

According to HY Solar, the equipment uses 16-specification tungsten diamond wire at scale and relies on precise parameter control and a stable structural design to improve thickness consistency and surface flatness of ultra-thin wafers.

Recently, a wholly owned subsidiary of HY Solar formally established Jiangsu Suntech Solar Co., Ltd. (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Sanchao Advanced Materials to Invest RMB 240 Million in Perovskite-Silicon Tandem Cell R&D Base

Diamond grinding wheel and diamond wire maker Sanchao Advanced Materials plans to invest RMB 240 million to build a solar cell R&D and experimental base focused on perovskite-silicon tandem technology.

With a 2-year construction period, the facility will adopt a 2-terminal perovskite-silicon tandem architecture and be developed in 2 phases. Phase I (12 months) targets tandem cell efficiency above 34% and a module efficiency of 28%, while Phase II (24 months) aims for a module efficiency of 30% and verification of the mass-production process.

On the topic of perovskites, TaiyangNews will host its first perovskite-focused virtual conference on April 22, 2026. Registration for the TaiyangNews Virtual Conference on Next-Generation PV Technology 2026 is free and can be done here.

SunFlex Begins Trial Production at Flexible Perovskite Solar Module Factory

Perovskite module manufacturer SunFlex New Energy announced that its flexible perovskite solar cell production line in Zhuji, Zhejiang Province, has entered trial production with an annual design capacity of 6 million pieces.

The company said the facility is the first of its kind globally, designed specifically for flexible perovskite technology and is intended for large-scale manufacturing. Earlier in 2026, SunFlex’s flexible perovskite modules won the iF Design Award and obtained IEC 63163 certification from TÜV SÜD, along with CNAS, RoHS, REACH, and ISO 9001 certifications for market deployment.

The company raised nearly RMB 50 million in a Pre-A+ financing round for this facility last year (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

Haitian Group and Tongwei Solar to Partner on PV Cell Pastes

Haitian Group has signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Tongwei Solar covering technical collaboration on HJT paste, TOPCon paste, and perovskite paste products through to December 31, 2030.

The agreement establishes a joint R&D mechanism and shared intellectual property for co-developed products. Tongwei Solar will prioritize Haitian’s paste products under equal conditions, while Haitian will provide competitive products, pricing, and services.

In 2025, Haitian Group completed the acquisition of assets related to the Heraeus Photovoltaics silver paste division through its subsidiary (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

This deal is also Tongwei’s third in quick succession, following its proposed acquisition of Qinghai Lihao Clean Energy and its recent strategic agreement with Gold Stone and Golden Solar (see China Solar PV News Snippets).
