Jinko ESS to supply 50 SunGiga ESS to Qidong Kailei

Jinko ESS, the energy storage systems (ESS) arm of JinkoSolar, has signed a contract with Qidong Kailei Trading Co. to supply 50 SunGiga commercial and industrial (C&I) energy storage systems, totaling 10.75 MWh. This partnership aims to support Kailei Trading’s energy cost-saving strategy through peak-shaving and valley-filling, enhancing energy efficiency.

Jinko ESS says the SunGiga system is tailored for C&I applications, offering high capacity, scalability, and safety with a liquid cooling design and intelligent thermal management, which boosts system efficiency and battery lifespan. This technology allows real-time control, optimizing energy use and reducing peak costs.

In August, Jinko ESS supplied 220 SunGiga ESS sets to a PV and storage project in China’s Guangdong province (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

LONGi’s HJT technology wins MIIT award

Leading solar manufacturer LONGi has announced that it was placed first in the inaugural Energy Electronics Industry Innovation Competition's photovoltaic track, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the Yibin Municipal Government of Sichuan Province. LONGi’s project, titled Global Highest Conversion Efficiency – Key Technologies for Large-Area Silicon Heterojunction Solar Cells, established a reliable theoretical and simulation model for HJT cells based on semi-empirical measurement parameters. The study analyzes the structural relationships of various functional layers in HJT cells, identifies bottlenecks limiting efficiency improvement, and offers optimization directions. The project proposed a new cell structure and developed new materials and processes. LONGi claims to have repeatedly set and maintained world records for crystalline silicon HJT cell efficiency.

Recently, LONGi Green Energy Technology reported 51.23 GW of total solar module shipments for 9M 2024 (see LONGi’s 9M 2024 Solar Module Shipments Exceeded 50 GW).

China Huaneng announces 15 GW solar module tender results

China Huaneng Group has announced the results for the second batch of its 2024 solar module (second batch) framework agreement procurement tender. With a total procurement capacity of 15 GW, the tender will be effective until June 30, 2025. It is divided into three lots:

  • Lot 1 includes 13.5 GW of N-type bifacial dual-glass modules, with 12 shortlisted suppliers. The bid prices range from RMB 0.675/W ($0.0934/W) to RMB 0.7216/W ($0.0999/W), with JA Solar and Huayang Group submitting the lowest and highest bids, respectively

  • Lot 2 includes 0.5 GW of HJT modules, with 3 suppliers shortlisted: Huasheng New Energy at RMB 0.795/W ($0.1103/W), LONGi Green Energy at RMB 0.87/W ($0.1206/W), and Winhitech at RMB 0.822/W ($0.1134/W).

  • Lot 3 for 1 GW of BC modules has 3 shortlisted suppliers: LONGi Green Energy at RMB 0.82/W ($0.1134/W), Huayao PV at RMB 0.776/W ($0.1072/W), and Tongwei Solar at RMB 0.94/W ($0.1302/W)

In September, solar mounting systems supplier Singsun delivered the fixed mounting systems for Huaneng’s 1 GW Kubuqi Desert Southern New Energy Base (see China Solar PV News Snippets).

S.C New Energy co-authors paper in Science journal on perovskite solar cells

Dr. Sheng Jiang, Head of Perovskite at S.C New Energy, in collaboration with institutions such as ETH Zurich, North China Electric Power University, Suzhou University, Wuhan University of Technology, and Westlake University, has published a paper titled Cation Reactivity Inhibits Perovskite Degradation in Efficient and Stable Solar Modules in the Science journal. The study reveals that introducing the additive N,N-dimethylformamide chloride into the perovskite precursor forms 2 new cations in situ – dimethylammonium and methyltrihydrotriazine – which significantly improve the optoelectronic performance of perovskite films. The technology enabled perovskite mini-modules to achieve a certified efficiency of 23.2%, with a stable efficiency of 23.0%. After 1,900 hours of maximum power point tracking testing at 85°C and 85% humidity, the packaged modules maintained 87.0% of their initial efficiency.

Leadmicro’s ALD+PVD equipment achieves mass shipment

Solar cell equipment maker Leadmicro recently began mass shipments of its ALD+PVD equipment for large-scale production of perovskite cells on 100 MW-sized glass substrates. The company says its first-generation ALD equipment, launched this year, meets the cell efficiency requirements for tin oxide film density and uniformity, with a production cycle time of 60 s/pc. The ALD equipment is now said to be entering the mass order delivery phase. Leadmicro also said that it has delivered its first PVD vapor deposition equipment for interface passivation of the electron transport layer, marking the start of industrial-scale validation for its perovskite cell production.

Sunwell’s THL cell equipment accepted by Tongwei

Sunwell, a solar cell equipment manufacturer, announced that the first batch of its GW-level THL equipment has successfully passed client acceptance. These THL devices will be installed at Tongwei Solar's Global Innovation R&D Center, which plans to build a GW-scale annual production capacity for HJT copper interconnect cells. The production line utilizes Tongwei's copper interconnect pilot technology, overcoming key challenges such as 15 μm fine-line copper grid production, flexible contact continuous electroplating, and copper grid interconnection for HJT cells. The line, which also includes a GW-scale HJT pilot line, produced its first cell in June and recently completed the THL equipment acceptance.
