China’s MCC Intl Plans PV Park In Moldova

Chinese company MCC International Incorporation Ltd., has expressed its interest in developing a solar power project in Moldova. The Moldovian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration released a statement saying the company is interested in becoming a 'reliable partner' of the government and that the project for the construction of national roads and a PV park can be started by the end of this year or early 2019.

MCC International has interests in equipment manufacturing and real estate development among other businesses. The President of the company, Zhang Ye met the Moldovian Minister Tudor Ulianovschi in Beijing in September 2018. No other details are available in the official statement issued by the ministry regarding the capacity of the proposed plant, its location, timeline or the investment value.

Moldova aims to generate 20% of its energy supply from renewables by 2020. According to Reuters, it imports three-quarters of its energy. With help from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), it is experimenting with a crypto-currency funded renewable energy project which will allow people to buy solar cells using cryptocurrency and lease them to the Technical University of Moldova.
