Meyer Burger posts H1/2021 results: Meyer Burger has released its 1st financials since turning into a solar cell and module producer, sharing that under the old business model, its sales came to a total of CHF 18.0 million (H1/2020: CHF 51.0 million). The EBITDA generated was CHF -30.9 million (H1/2020: CHF -25.5 million).
From the beginning of H2/2021, it will start generating 1st sales of solar modules. Management claims the company is completely sold out with the orders on hand until well into Q4/2021, and prices are 'fully in line with expectations'. It hasn't been able to completely ramp up its capacity so far and has been running production in continuous shifts.
Meyer Burger admitted experiencing 'lack of standard components' for its factories to ramp up which has delayed its plans to commission individual parts of production lines to beyond August 2021. "Despite the tense global market situation, the supply of critical materials for solar cell and module production is sustainably secured through binding supply contracts," it stated.
The company's expansion plans for solar cell and modules to 1.4 GW each are on track to be achieved by 2022-end, with around 1 GW module capacity planned for Freiberg, and close to 400 MW at a second 'expandable' location on which the decision is to be taken in Q3/2021 (see Meyer Burger Raises Capital To Expand Production Capacity).
