Floating Solar project sold: Germany’s BayWa r.e. and its Dutch subsidiary GroenLeven have sold a 46 MW floating solar PV project in Friesland, the Netherlands. They have transferred project rights to the local energy cooperative Enerzjyk Skûlenboarch, the municipality Tytsjerksteradiel, and the Friesland Clean Energy Fund. The project will be the largest floating PV park in the country once built, spread over 35 hectares. It will also host recreational facilities like a mountain bike trail around the site, while a fishing pier is already in place. GroenLeven and BayWa r.e. said the project supports the expansion of solar energy in the Netherlands and highlights the role of floating solar in boosting renewable capacity without requiring additional land.
Separately, BayWa also sold its under-construction French solar projects in Gièvres (21 MW) and Salsigne-Villardonnel (25 MW), and the 121 MW UK solar portfolio (77 MW Clump Farm and 44 MW Yanel Solar Farm) to Capital Dynamics.
BC modules for Hungary project: Chinese solar PV manufacturer LONGi will supply its Hi-MO 9 solar modules for what is likely to be the largest solar project in Hungary. Solarpro has placed an order for nearly 700,000 modules with LONGi for the Heves located facility. On completion, it is expected to generate 470 GWh annually. Previously, the 2 companies collaborated on a 176 MW solar facility in Romania.
Long-term RE PPA in Poland: EDP and Poland’s Energa have signed one of the largest ever power purchase agreements (PPA) in Poland for a 322 MW renewable energy portfolio. EDP will supply Energa with close to 600 GWh of renewable energy annually from wind and solar assets located across 2 sites in the Wielkopolska region. EDF said it is building 2 solar installations near operational wind farms to create hybrid projects.
European Energy wins in Italian auction: 5 solar projects developed by Denmark’s European Energy, with a combined capacity of 513 MW, have moved closer to construction after securing Contract for Difference (CfD) tariffs from Italy’s energy agency GSE. The projects are located in Sicily, Apulia, and Molise and were awarded under the FER-X support scheme, which provides long-term price stability for renewable energy. The portfolio includes large-scale photovoltaic plants ranging from 20 MW to 225 MW, including the Vizzini project in Sicily, planned as Italy’s largest agri-PV solar park.
400 MW solar farm in the UK: Greece-based METLEN has secured an EPC contract from EDF power solutions UK for the 400 MW Longfield Solar Farm, one of the largest solar projects in the UK. Construction is expected to start in early 2027, with completion targeted for 2030. Under the contract, METLEN will be responsible for the full design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of the project, excluding grid connection works. The solar farm is expected to generate enough electricity to power around 130,000 households and avoid about 60,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.
424 MW changes hands in Greece: TotalEnergies of France has finalized a deal to divest 50% of its stake in a 424 MW wind and solar projects portfolio in Greece. Asterion Industrial Partners is to purchase this capacity as part of the deal, which values the portfolio at €508 million. TotalEnergies will continue to operate the assets and will also purchase and market the majority of the electricity produced once they are no longer eligible for regulated tariffs.
Loan for Spanish project: Spain-based Grenergy has secured a senior non-recourse financing agreement worth €98.8 million for the 172 MW Ayora Solar Plant in Valencia, Spain. Financing for the facility is fully underwritten by Banco Santander and includes €13.6 million in lines of credit. The project is currently in the construction phase and is contracted under a 15-year PPA.
Financing for Italian acquisition: German solar and wind energy company Encavis has secured a €200 million non-recourse bridge financing from UniCredit to acquire the 265 MW Giotto solar portfolio in Italy from EDP Renewables Italia Holding. Of the 265 MW, 248 MW is operational, and the remaining 17 MW is being expanded. On completion, these projects in Lazio and Puglia will generate 423 GWh annually.
Kyivstar acquires 12.9 MW in Ukraine: Ukraine-based mobile operator Kyivstar, part of VEON Ltd, has ventured into the solar energy space with 100% acquisition of 12.9 MW solar generation capacity. Its acquisition of LLC SUNVIN 11 will support Kyivstar’s operational and financial aims by partially hedging it against price volatility in the energy market. This is aligned with Kyivstar and VEON’s commitment to invest $1 billion in Ukraine over 2023-2027, including in improving the country’s energy resilience, it stated.
36.8 MW online in Portugal: Sonnedix has commissioned its 36.8 MW Sonnedix Lousada (CSF Paredes) Solar Project in Portugal. Located in the Municipality of Paredes of Porto District, it started operations in mid-December, expanding the company’s total operational capacity in the country to exceed 300 MW. Sonnedix said it is evolving its portfolio towards hybrid models that combine solar and wind energy generation with battery energy storage systems (BESS) to better align with customer demand profiles.
