FRV says it has secured 2.3 GW of transmission grid capacity for renewable energy and storage projects in Germany
The portfolio includes battery storage, solar PV and hybrid projects across Brandenburg, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia
The projects are expected to progress to RTB stages between 2026 and 2029
Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), part of Jameel Energy, has secured 2.3 GW of transmission grid capacity in Germany to support the development of battery energy storage, solar PV and hybrid renewable energy projects.
“The announcement of 2.3 GW secured grid capacity comes at a time when grid access has become a decisive factor for large-scale renewable energy and storage projects in Germany,” stated the company.
The Spain-based company said the secured grid access provides a clear pathway for projects across multiple German regions to reach ready-to-build (RTB) status between 2026 and 2029.
FRV says its German portfolio includes projects designed to improve grid flexibility and support the integration of more renewable energy into the power system. The battery energy storage systems (BESS) are planned with 2- and 4-hour discharge durations, enabling them to store excess renewable electricity and supply it back to the grid during periods of higher demand.
Of the total pipeline, FRV is developing 4 projects in In Brandenburg, including 3 BESS facilities and a hybrid project. A 750 MW BESS project is nearing building approval, with the regional portfolio expected to reach RTB status between 2026 and 2028.
In Lower Saxony, the company is advancing 5 projects with a combined planned capacity of nearly 700 MW, including a 600 MW BESS, a 13.8 MW solar PV plant and 3 hybrid projects. These developments are expected to reach RTB stage between late 2026 and early 2028.
Additionally, FRV is developing 3 projects in North Rhine-Westphalia with a combined capacity exceeding 900 MW. The portfolio includes 2 hybrid projects and a 900 MW/3,600 MWh BESS facility, with RTB milestones expected between late 2027 and Q1 2029.
Beyond the secured 2.3 GW portfolio, the Spanish company said it is pursuing additional renewable energy and storage projects in several German states. The company said it will continue advancing permitting, technical design and construction preparations as part of its broader international pipeline.
“Germany needs more renewable generation, but more importantly renewable energy must be integrated more efficiently into the power system and at fair price,” said FRV Germany Managing Director Amós Guillén. “Our focus is on projects that add flexibility, make better use of grid infrastructure and support the next phase of Germany’s energy transition.”
