Germany Adds 202 MW in February

There isn’t much difference in the new PV capacity additions in Germany during January and February 2018, but it is huge over last year’s additions in the same two months.

  • Germany's Federal Network Agency has released data on the new PV additions in February 2018, recording over 202 MW of new registrations
  • This is down over 8% month-on-month, but accounts for growth of more than 65% year-on-year
  • Ground-mounted systems represent 94.86 MW or 46% of the overall capacity added in February
  • Germany's cumulative PV capacity came in at 43.4 GW

After beating new PV additions of the previous 2 years in January 2018, Germany's market has somewhat slowed down again, although it remained above the 200 MW level. In February 2018, Germany's new capacity addition was 202.371 MW, down from 220 MW reported in the previous month (see Germany Hits January PV High Of 220 MW).

Compared to the previous year's February count of 122.43 MW, the 2018's number is an improvement of over 65%. Ground-mounted systems saw 94.86 MW of added capacity, contributing around 46% to the February 2018 number, according to the Federal Network Agency.

If demand continues for the coming months to be that much stronger in a year-on-year comparison, Germany should beat the 2.5 GW annual target in 2018, which it has missed for the last few years. In 2017, the market grew to 1.75 GW new PV but still fell short of the annual target (see Germany's 1.75 GW Of PV In 2017 Misses Target).

On Feb. 28, Germany's cumulative PV capacity came in at 43.4 GW.
