In February 2019, Germany installed 418.6 MW of new solar capacity, taking its total in the first 2 months of 2019 to almost 1 GW. In January 2019, it added more than 550 MW which seems to be the adjusted number since the preliminary announcement said January additions were 579 MW of new solar (see Germany Installed Over Half GW PV In January). Nonetheless, together the first 2 months of 2019 bring total additions so far to more than 969 MW.
For the month of February, the additions include 386.8 MW coming from system ranges of beyond 750 kW installed outside the country's tender program, 28 MW of ground mounted systems along with 1.2 MW of tenant electricity, according to Germany's Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur). The February 2019 numbers are also an increase of more than 100% over last year's 202.37 MW (see Germany Adds 202 MW In February).
Much of the increase was thanks to government's pre-announced feed-in-tariff (FIT) cuts for commercial systems of 40 kW to 750 kW range for which the government has started a 3-phase FIT reduction since February 2019.
Overall, Germany's cumulative PV installations reached 46,898 MW at the end of February 2019, bringing the country quickly closer to its 52 GW FIT cap.
