Germany’s solar PV installations bounced back in May 2025, reaching 1.113 GW after 2 slow months
Installations went up for ground-mounted solar projects that contributed nearly 457 MW
Balcony PV or plug-in systems contributed 56 MW, showing a steady growth
Germany’s monthly solar PV installations regained their footing, reaching 1.113 GW in May 2025, after 2 consecutive months of reporting under the GW level, according to the latest data published by Bundesnetzagentur, the Federal Network Agency.
While this is lower than 1.223 GW the agency reported for May 2024, it goes up from 817 MW reported for March 2025 and 945 MW for April 2025, which are revised figures from 802.2 MW and 838.5 MW it announced previously (see Germany Installed Over 838 MW Of Solar PV In April 2025).
For the reporting month of May, the registered capacity in the Market Data Register includes 476.7 MW of rooftop solar, which is lower in comparison with the previous month’s 553.7 MW. However, the agency’s data shows a steady decline in segment installations since January this year, when it reported capacity additions of 1.106 GW.
Ground-mounted solar installations are on their way up, with 108 new projects representing 456.8 MW, up from 325.9 MW in the previous month and 286.2 MW in March this year.
Plug-in solar systems or balcony solar systems contributed 56 MW to the total for May, installing a total of 47,539 systems. Recently, BSW Solar reported this segment to have exceeded 1 million unit installations in the country (see Germany Exceeds 1 Million Balcony Solar Power Plant Installations).
According to the agency, Germany installed over 5.2 GW of new solar PV capacity between January and May this year, expanding the cumulative capacity to 106.28 GW.
