Germany has awarded 512 MW new solar capacity selecting 133 bids for the country's 3rd technology specific solar energy auction for 2021, with the lowest winning bid determined as €0.0457 per kWh, said the country's Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur). Bids for this round, launched in June, were capped at €0.059 per kWh.
The highest winning bid was €0.052 per kWh, with an average weighted bid level of €0.05 per kWh which is the same as the last round. In fact, the average weighted winning bid has remained the same in all 3 tender rounds this year (see Germany: 2nd Tech Specific Auction Of 2021 Oversubscribed).
Like the 2 previous auctions for this category, the 3rd auction was also significantly oversubscribed. The Federal Network Agency received 232 bids representing 986 MW in total, compared to 510 MW on offer. A list with the winning bidders is accessible here.
Of the 512 MW awarded, the maximum capacity was selected for Bavaria with 255 MW, followed by 51 MW for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and 49 MW for Baden- Württemberg.
The agency for the 1st time allowed bidders to submit bids for projects on arable and grassland areas in Lower Saxony and Saxony, yet it received no bids for these regions.
The next technology specific auction round for solar energy is now scheduled for March 1, 2022 which will be the 1st such auction next year.
