The Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) is looking for prospective bidders for several small scale off-grid, hybrid and micro grid solar PV systems to be set up across various locations. A total of 8 tenders launched involve supply, installation and commissioning of projects with varying capacities.
Here is a brief outline of the projects tendered:
Tender 1: 23 kW hybrid solar PV system with 115 kWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to be set up at the Ministry of Finance Annex in Georgetown. Last date of bid submission is March 30, 2021.
Tender 2: 111 kW grid tied solar PV system at Guyana National Shipping Corporation Limited-Annexe Complex.
Tender 3: Supply, installation and commissioning of a 217 kW solar PV system at Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. Last date of bid submission is March 30, 2021.
Tender 4: 10×1.2 kW off-grid solar PV systems in Advent Acres in Loo Creek, Region 4. Last date of bid submission is March 30, 2021.
Tender 5: 88.6 kW off-grid solar PV micro-grid system and electrical distribution network in Sebai. Last date for bid submission April 6, 2021.
Tender 6: 50.7 kW hybrid solar PV micro-grid system at the Iwokrama River Lodge & Resource Center, Region 8. Last date for bid submission, April 6, 2021.
Tender 7: 150 kW off-grid solar PV micro-grid system and electrical distribution network in Paruima. April 13, 2021 is the last date to submit bids.
Tender 8: 82 kW hybrid solar PV systems and 355 kWh energy storage in Region 1 (Mabaruma, Hosororo, Wauna and Moruca) with last date for bid submission being April 6, 2021. It will assist the country in lowering its reliance on imported fossil fuels, lower electricity consumption from the grid and reduce pollution.
Currently Guyana is mainly dependent on fossil fuel powered capacity for its energy needs, but the GEA says the country has aimed to go 100% renewable energy powered under its Green State Development Strategy. At the end of 2018, its total installed solar PV capacity was 4.63 MW with an estimated annual generation of 7.16 GWh.
