Emmvee sells 55 MW solar to O2 Power; Adani places RMB 60 million order with China's Gaoce; Mercom counts 1.3 GW open access solar capacity added in H1/2022; MNRE amends Modhera solarization plan, expanding its budget to INR 766.6 million.
O2 Power acquires 55 MW solar: Backed by global investors EQT Infrastructure and Temasek, O2 Power has acquired 55 MW solar power capacity from Emmvee Photovoltaic Power Pvt Ltd. The portfolio of solar plants are located in Karnataka and Telangana. Part of these projects supply power to state discoms and balance capacity supplies captive power to Dr Reddy's Laboratories. O2 Power's Founder and COO Peeyush Mohit said, "The Emmvee acquisition marks our foray not only into Karnataka and Telangana but also marks the beginning of our relationship with Dr Reddy's."
Adani to source machines from Qingdao Gaoce: Adani Group has placed an order for grinding and polishing machines, and slicing machines worth RMB 60 million with China's Qingdao Gaoce Technology, stated the Chinese company. Gaoce is a supplier of slicing equipment for hard and brittle materials and cutting tools, mainly used for silicon wafer production. In June 2022, Adani contractee China's Jinchen Corp to supply 2 GW module production line (see China PV News Snippets).
1.3 GW open access solar added in H1/2022: Mercom India's Solar Open Access Market Report Q2 2022 report counts India to have installed 1.3 GW of new open access solar capacity in H1/2022, reflecting a growth of 97% annually. It is the 2nd highest installation for 6 months of any year to date in this category. In Q2/2022, 680 MW of open access capacity was added and in Q1/2022, 575 MW. At the end of June 2022, India's cumulative installed open access solar capacity was 6.5 GW.
Modhera Solarization plan amended: Acting on a State Government of Gujarat request, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has amended the plans to solarize the Sun-Temple town of Modhera. Gujarat wants to add 1,026 x1 solar rooftop systems on household buildings and an aggregate of 205 kW rooftop solar systems on various government buildings. It will increase the budget of the project to INR 766.6 million ($9.61 million) from INR 650 million ($8.15 million) estimated previously. The changes also include increasing the number of rooftop solar systems from 271 to 1,297 and aggregate rooftop PV capacity for government buildings from 100 kW to 305 kW. Projects can now be completed till an extended deadline of September 30, 2022. In March 2020, the Indian President had sanctioned pilot demonstration solarization project for Modhera with 6 MW solar PV and 15 MWh/6 MW battery energy storage system (see India To Solarise Sun-Temple Town Under Pilot Project).
