Amazon signs PPA for 300 MW wind-solar hybrid project with Vibrant Energy; Mercom says 1.9 GW open access PV installed in 9M/2022; SJVN signs JV MoU with Grid Corporation of Odisha for 2 GW solar and 1 GW hydroelectric projects.

300 MW India wind-solar capacity for Amazon: Global e-commerce giant Amazon has announced its maiden wind-solar hybrid project contract with Macquarie's Green Investment Group's (GIG) Indian platform Vibrant Energy. The 300 MW capacity will be based in Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. In a statement, Vibrant Energy said it is one of the largest wind-solar hybrid corporate power purchase agreements (CPPA) by a technology company in India. It will generate 1,163,000 MWh annually. Combined with three solar farms in Rajasthan, Amazon now has 5 utility-scale renewable energy projects in India, representing 720 MW of renewable energy capacity.

1.9 GW open access PV capacity in 9M/2022: Mercom India Research's Solar Open Access Market Report Q3 2022 counts India to have installed around 1.9 GW of new open access PV capacity in 9M/2022 in CY 2022. This represents an annual increase of 96%. It includes 596 MW added in Q3/2022, up 91% YoY, but a decline of 12.5% QoQ. At the end of September 2022, India's total installed solar capacity exceeded 7 GW, with more than 5 GW under development and in pre-construction phase. While demand remains steady, if it was not for supply chain constraints and price increases, the numbers would have been higher. Mercom India's Managing Director Priya Sanjay believes there is a huge untapped market of SMEs and MSMEs still to be captured. The report can be purchased from Mercom's website.

2 GW JV for solar in Odisha: SJVN Limited's SJVN Green Energy Limited has entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Grid Corporation of Odisha to co-develop 2 GW solar power projects and 1 GW hydroelectric facilities in Odisha through a joint venture. These projects will be implemented with an investment of INR 200 billion ($2.4 billion) and generate 4,207 million units in the 1st year of their operation. Over 25 years, estimated energy production will be around 96,797 million units, it announced.
