190 MW solar tender from NTPC: The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has invited bids for the development of 190 MW grid connected solar PV power project at Nokh Solar Park in Rajasthan. The project is being developed through Rajasthan Solar Park Development Company Ltd. on an identified piece of land at village Nokh in Pokran administrative division under Jaisalmer district. It is open to interested bidders from around the globe. Last date to submit bids is February 10, 2021, as per the tender announcement. In February 2020, NTPC secured implementation support agreement with Rajasthan Solar Park Development for 925 MW Nokh Solar Park (see 925 MW Solar Park Plans Move Ahead In India).

Separately in a Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) filing, a subsidiary of the NTPC, THDC India Limited has commissioned 50 MW solar power project at Kasargod Solar Park at Kasargod in Kerala. This takes the commissioned power generation capacity of NTPC Group to 62.975 GW, while that of THDC India Limited at 1.587 GW.

SECI issues 25 MW AC solar tender: The Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has launched a tender for 25 MW AC solar power plant on behalf of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. EPC company selected under the auction will be required to provide design, engineering, supply, construction, erection, testing and commissioning of the project at Bhojudih Coal Washery in Purulia district of West Bengal. Selected bidder will also provide operation and maintenance services for 5 years. BCCL mines coal and operates coking coal mines for the Government of India. Through the 25 MW AC solar project, BCCL believes it will be a 'leap towards the use of green energy' for the company and also a means to become 'self-reliant' while generating 'economical energy'.

REIL tender for 300,000 solar cells: The Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments Limited (REIL) has issued another procurement round for solar cells, this time for multicrystalline silicon solar cells with 4.5W each. The quantity it requires is 300,000, as per the notice issued on its website. Among specifications mentioned, the solar cells should have a size of 156mm x 156mm with 200 +/- 20 μm thickness. Recently REIL launched a tender to procure 200,000 multicrystalline silicon solar cells with 4.67W output each (see India PV News Snippets: Sembcorp, EESL, IREDA, REIL, GEDA).

Amplus launches innovation challenge: Distributed solar system solutions provider Amplus Solar has launched what it calls The MILES Challenge for startups that have ready to deploy solutions for the clean energy ecosystem in India. MILES here stands for M+Innovation Lab for Energy and Sustainability and has been launched in association with angel investor GoMassive Earth Network. Winning ideas will get seed capital from Amplus along with teams getting mentored and getting access to resources in the energy industry. Innovative ideas are invited for distributed solar, IoT applications in energy, battery storage and electric mobility space. Submissions will be accepted till January 31, 2021.

Chandigarh planning 60 MW solar in 2 years: The city of Chandigarh is planning to generate over 60 MW of solar energy over the next 2 years. According to a news report by The Economic Times (ET), the city's nodal agency Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) has prepared a plan to this effect and is to implement the same under coordination with relevant authorities. One of the highlight of this plan is that there will be no electrical inspection carried out for up to 250kW of solar plants. Currently, the union territory (UT) has achieved a target of 37.5 MW of the 60 MW, as per the news report.
