RIL’s PV complex commencement: The solar PV Giga Factory of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is planned to start operations in a phase-wise manner, starting by the end of 2024. It will commission the 1st train of module and cell manufacturing in FY 2025, announced the company in its Integrated Annual Report for FY 2023-24. The solar panels manufactured from this fab have secured the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification. The eventual target is for 20 GW PV capacity for the Jamnagar fab in Gujarat. The solar PV Giga-Factory is one of the 5 Giga Factories that the RIL has planned to build as part of the Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex in Jamnagar. The remaining 4 factories will produce energy storage batteries, electrolyzers, fuel cell and power electronics (see Reliance Announces Power Electronics Giga Fab). RIL targets to also install 100 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Rajasthan project for SWREL: Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Limited (SWREL) has secured a new contract for 633 MW DC/400 MW AC solar PV project in India’s Rajasthan. To be built for more than INR 5.5 billion ($65.5 million), the project entails providing supply and works for a 33/200 kV switchyard along with building the solar plant. With this order from a leading private renewable IPP, SWREL counts its domestic order inflows in Q2 FY 2025 as adding up to around INR 9 billion ($107 million). This is in addition to the order inflow of INR 21.7 billion ($258 million) in Q1, according to the company. CEO Amit Jain said the company is confident of further growth in business due to a strong domestic bid pipeline in place.

300 MW module fab: Germany’s AXITEC has opened a 300 MW solar module manufacturing facility in India’s Tamil Nadu. Located in Tiruvallur, the factory will roll out its advanced n-type TOPCon solar modules. These are compliant with domestic content requirement (DCR) and non-DCR requirements, said the company in a statement to the local media.

SJVN’s floating solar plant: SJVN Limited’s green energy arm SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) has commissioned its maiden floating solar PV project. The 90 MW Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project is located in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. The company calls it one of the largest floating solar projects in Central and North India. It was built for INR 6.46 billion ($77 million) and expected to generate 196.5 million units of energy in the 1st year, and over 25 years it will generate an estimated 4,629.3 million units. SJVN said this project will increase the company’s revenue by INR 640 million ($7.62 million).
