AES Andes’ Chile projects: The Chilean presence of US-based electricity producer AES Corporation, AES Andes has proposed to invest $3 billion worth of solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Chile. It has submitted plans for 3 PV projects worth 1.7 GW combined capacity, and 2,400 MW of BESS for environmental processing. These projects are located in Tarapacá and Antofagasta regions. The Environmental Evaluation Service (SEA) agency of Chile will evaluate AES’ $990 million project with 581 MW installed PV and 809 MW storage capacity in Pozo Almonte commune, to be followed by the Altos del Sol and Llanos del Sol projects previously submitted by the company. It claims to be the company with the largest portfolio of renewable energy projects in the country with their respective Environmental Qualification Resolutions approved or in process.

Financing for Atlas’ Colombian plant: Atlas Renewable Energy has secured COP 473.77 billion ($113 million) as a financing package for its maiden project in Colombia. The 201 MW DC/160 MW AC Shangri-La Solar PV Power Plant in Colombia is financed by IDB Invest and Bancolombia. It is the largest project financed by IDB Invest in Colombia. Located in the Tolima department of Colombia, the project is likely a key component of Atlas’ partnership with ISAGEN that aims to develop, build and operate 1 GW of solar projects over the next decade, stated Atlas.
