InterEnergy acquires 61.2 MW RE: Clean energy investor in the Caribbean and Latin America InterEnergy Group has acquired the British Virgin Islands subsidiary of BMR Energy Limited, part of the Virgin Group, for over $122 million. The company comes to InterEnergy’s fold with its 61.2 MW combined renewable energy capacity. It comprises 36.3 MW of installed wind capacity in Jamaica, and 25 MW across 4 solar parks in Guatemala, the US Virgin Islands, and the Cayman Islands. The solar projects include the 7 MW Green Solar project in Guatemala’s Zacapa, the 5 MW Spanish Town in St. Croix and the 6.4 MW Donoe in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, and the 6.5 MW Bodden Town in the Cayman Islands. All of these facilities are operating under long-term power purchase agreements (PPA) with local distributors. InterEnergy says this acquisition expands its presence in new markets and strengthens its renewable energy portfolio that accounts for over 80% of its 2.4 GW assets.

DG assets online in Brazil: Victory Hill Capital Partners managed London-listed investment trust VH Global Energy Infrastructure plc (ENRG) has announced the commissioning of 2 additional distributed generation (DG) solar sites in Brazil. One of the 2 assets with 5.7 MW DC capacity has a 20-year inflation-linked contract with Spanish multinational telecommunications firm Telefonica. The other asset has an offtake agreement with a 10-year duration. VH says these sites expand its total operational solar DG capacity in the country to 34.3 MW DC. Another DG solar project with 6.25 MW DC of new capacity is to be energized in Q1 2025. 3 more sites are expected to enter operations in 2025.

Voltalia’s maiden Colombia project: French renewable energy company Voltalia is constructing a 19.7 MW solar project in Colombia which will be its first in the country. The Los Venados project is located in the Tolima region. It is backed by a 15-year contract to serve private sector buyers, said Voltalia. The project is scheduled to be commissioned in Q1 2026.

Colbún’s 228 MW storage project in Chile: Chilean utility Colbún has begun constructing what it terms as one of the largest storage projects in Chile. The 228 MW/912 MWh with 4-hour capacity battery energy storage system (BESS) Celda Solar Storage Project is located in the Arica and Parinacota region. Tesla is supplying its Megapack advanced energy storage system for this $260 million investment. Each Megapack unit can store over 3.9 MWh of energy that’s enough to supply an average of 3,600 homes for an hour, shared Colbún. The park is scheduled to start commercial operations in mid-2026. Celda Solar is part of Colbún’s renewable energy projects portfolio, which targets to add over 1.5 GW of solar, wind and storage capacity during the 5-year period of 2022-2026. This comprises Diego de Almagro Sur Solar Park with 230 MW with 8 MW/32 MWh of battery capacity.

Janaúba Solar Complex advances in Brazil: Brazilian renewable energy company Elera Renovaveis says it has completed the expansion of its Janaúba Solar Complex in Brazil. The complex now sports a 1.617 MW total capacity. Elera claims this is the largest solar complex in the Southern Hemisphere and the Americas. It will generate enough power to supply the equivalent of the residential energy consumption of 1.2 million people.
