EGE Haina bags $100 million loan for RE in Dominican Republic; Neoenergia to supply RE to football club; Chilean gas provider signs up for solar & storage project.

Solar PV manufacturing conference: One of the upcoming destinations for solar PV manufacturing beyond China is India, where companies are gathering support from technologists and scientists to develop an upstream value chain. The idea is not just to establish vertical integration but also to make it a resilient and sustainable one. $100 million for EGE Haina: Dominican Republican electricity utility Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Haina (EGE Haina) has secured a $100 million syndicated loan to support renewable energy projects in the country. Pooled in by Banco Latinoamericano de Comercio Exterior, S.A. (Bladex) and The Bank of Nova Scotia (Scotiabank), the loan will contribute to the utility’s growth strategy in line with that of the country’s renewable energy targets. EGE Haina operates in the space of wind farms, solar plants and thermal generation, among others. 

RE for football club: Brazilian utility Neoenergia has signed a contract to supply 100% renewable electricity to Esporte Clube Bahia SAF in Brazil through the country’s free market regime. It will enable the club to reduce its monthly electricity expenses by up to 35% at the Evaristo de Macedo Training Center, in Dias D'Ávila, in the metropolitan region of Salvador (BA). The contract is estimated to help the club save a total of BRL 2.2 million ($440,000) over the next 5 years for the club.

Zelestra and Abastible contract in Chile: Spanish renewable energy developer Zelestra has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Chilean gas supplier Abastible for a solar and storage project. The 220 MW DC solar PV and 1 GWh of battery energy storage system (BESS) project is currently under construction in Tarapacá, Chile. On completion, this hybrid power plant will generate close to 600 GWh of renewable electricity/year. Abastible will procure power from this customized hybrid solution during the nighttime to expand its carbon-free energy portfolio.
